Legacy

Prologue: A Passing, Brutal
His eyes were so lifeless, the thief thought briefly as the entire world flipped upside down, all aside from the tears that welled in them. In these long last moments, he seemed to be able to reflect on the details of what had passed and regretted much as he knew he was taking his final breath. There was no doubt, his life was at an end and rightfully so. With each second passed, his demise was marked in time with the popping of joint or cracking of bone.
There was pain, but with the swiftness of the attack, shock settled in quickly. Terror faded into an oddity of wonderment. He was his own death. This was his own doing and he deserved every last bit of the punishment he received. All that he could do was choke on his own screams as he starred into the eyes of a lifeless man; into the absent void of a soulless machine and await his own passing, brutally.
